Conjunctions and More!

This 17 slide power point presentation teaches the most common conjunctions etc (linkers) in a clear and fun format with lots of practice activities.

This lesson includes: and, but, so, therefore, as a result, even though, however, besides and what's more.

These are the most common conjunctions and adverbial phrases (collectively known for our purposes as linkers).

Students will learn why they are used, which other linkers each one is similar to, how they are used differently and will practise using them in a sentence.

This activity is also effective on it's own as revision, extra practice or as a filler to help reinforce conjunctions and linkers.

Aligned with common core standards for teaching conjunctions as follows:

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.1.1g Use frequently occurring conjunctions (e.g., and, but, or, so, because).

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.3.1h Use coordinating and subordinating conjunctions.

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.4.2c Use a comma before a coordinating conjunction in a compound sentence.

Students have great difficulty knowing how to use different conjunctions in different sentence structures and so we have attempted to make the distinctions very clear as well as providing sufficient controlled and uncontrolled practice activities.

There are additional suggestions for extension activities for more practice giving students opportunity to be more creative.

This lesson will also draw out a huge amount of language and creates an opportunity to develop vocabulary at the same time.

It is enjoyable and concise.

Full lesson plan includes:

* Lots of practice questions and exercises.

* Clear lesson outcome.

* Lesson plan instructions for teachers.

* Clear and fun presentation of most common conjunctions (linkers).

* Clear presentation of accepted rules including punctuation.

* Extension suggestions (Adds approx 30 mins to the lesson time).

If you have any comments / ideas so as to increase its efficacy, please let us know. Similarly, if there is anything you disagree with in our presentation, your feedback will be welcomed.
