Robert College of Istanbul (Turkish: İstanbul Özel Amerikan Robert Lisesi) is an independent private[1] high school in Turkey.[2] Robert College is a co-educational, boarding school with a 65-acre (260,000 m2) wooded campus on the European side of Istanbul between the two bridges on the Bosphorus, with the Arnavutköy district to the east, and the upscale Ulus district to the west.

The 150-year-old institution is the oldest American school still in existence in its original location outside the United States.[3] Robert College is accredited by the New York State Association of Independent Schools.

A teacher must have a strong background and experience in his or her subject area. This is not a good school for a novice teacher, although we do, from time to time, hire highly promising young teachers on an internship basis. In addition, the Turkish Ministry of Education has requirements that MUST be met before we are allowed to offer a contract. These are:

1. an undergraduate degree in the subject area to be taught, and

2. a valid teaching certificate in this subject area.

While not requirements, we also look favorably at advanced degrees, international teaching experience, and experience using information technology in instruction.

Please also note that because all courses in the Social Sciences are taught in Turkish, we cannot hire foreign teachers in these areas. We also have no openings in such areas as Home Economics, Business, Industrial Arts or Special Education. Also personal guidance and its related programs is conducted in Turkish by native Turks, who have training approved by the Ministry of Education. From time to time, we have an opening for a foreign overseas university advisor.

Lastly, we very rarely hire candidates without an interview. Because, for many talented teachers, teaching at Robert College becomes a long-term professional and personal commitment, we urge serious candidates to come to Istanbul for an on-site interview if at all possible, and will make every effort to provide campus accommodations for visitors. Otherwise, interviews may be arranged on an individual basis or, more commonly, at recruitment fairs.
